Introduce yourself / New Here
« Last post by twcook on Today at 03:30:37 »
Hi All,

My name is Tim and I am learning blues guitar.
I am originally from the US and now live in Brazil.  I am a self taught; more or less guitar player.  I grew up around a musical family but I never took it seriously.  I haven't played much over the past almost 30 years but I decided to put in some effort now.

I recently bought a Schecter Solo-6 Custom from Strings & Things in Memphis.  So, at least I have a history connection.  8)  The guitar sounded great when played by a real guitarist at S&T.

Now all I have to do is learn to stroke it correctly.   :D

Cheers!

After playing many years and really going to play everytime I had a chance over the years. I started to learn something that is very common amongest band members. The Guitar players or Piano players and especially some Diva Lady want to be star seems to like to go over to the harmonica players mic controls and they like to turn the volume down without any sort of common courtesy or advance notice. They seem to like to do this in the middle of your solo when things seem to be going good. You know how many times Ive this happen to me. What they seem to dont understand first off this is fucking rude, secondly the instrument is like a voice and to play it properly and get the right effects it has to be on the same level as a singers mic. A good harmonica player will realize when its to loud and back off the mic but normally the Diva or Guitar player likes to walk over and turn it down at a crucial moment in some poor bastards solo. When the mic is turned down on a harmonica its very muffeled and you lose the audience . Then the guy playing the harmonica will normally start to lose control of his playing cause you cant hear it or your playing way to hard that you end up blowing out your harmoicas very fast. It isnt a nice feeling and you can go from being pumped up to fucking pissed off. A word of advice do not let any asshole turn your mic down ever. Do not let any of these people near your mic volume. You need to be your boss and control your own destiny. Do not let a Diva or anyone else mess with your mic when playing live. I would also tell them ahead of time for they know dont even go near it. If they do screw with your mic volume , I will walk away and refuse to play with them anymore. As a harmonica player do not take anyones shit. Explain, to get the right sound and effects you need the mic a little hot . A good harmoica player will know whats over bearing and whats not. You dont need the Diva , or want to be guitar player ,or even a lounge lizard piano player deciding for you. Take control of your own sound and effects. Shape it the way you want. I dont play with peole who control my sound. Set yourself apart, walk if it doesnt suit you. There is always another band and place to play.
