Wheres best to go?A request of help from London

Hi everyone

I'm planning a surprise trip for my Dad for his 70th Birthday.He's been a big Blues and Jazz fan since the 60s and I want to take him to the States for a great music experience.I'm abit of a fan myself but I don't have a huge amount of knowledge on where would be best to go.I've been thinking of Chicago for the Blues Festival or maybe New Orleans and frequenting the many venues there.Hes a young 70 and can easily handle a few heavy nights out.
If anyone out there has got any other suggestions or can tell me New Orleans or Chicago that would be greatly appreciated.
